• 1959 - originally formed as a high school band (The Blue Velvets) then with the British Invasion (Golliwogs)
  • John Fogerty - gtr, vocals, kbd, harmonica
  • Tom Fogerty - gtr, piano, vocals
  • Stu Cook - bass, piano
  • Doug Clifford - drums

• 1967 - changed to Creedence Clearwater Revival, releasing "Susie Q" (remake of Dale Hawkins tune from 1957)

• CCR's music exemplifies the deep south, bayou sound

  Proud Mary

(#2, 1969)

• black enunciation of lyrics
  • sometimes their music sounded like rockabilly, other times black blues-influenced
• 1972 - John Fogerty went solo, recording first as the Blue Ridge Rangers
• 1985 - Fogerty's real comeback … "The Old Man Down the Road" (#10) and "Rock & Roll Girls" (#20)
